Some days ago our good friends from IntoWindows covered how to change the logon screen background color. That is simple tweak, but I do not like color scheme number calculation and direct registry editing, so I decide to create a simple tool which allows you:
to change color of sign in screen in Windows 8
to set the same color for sign in screen and Start screen with one click
to get ready-to-use registry tweak with your settings
And here how it works:
Sign In Color Changer is portable application and does not require to be installed. Sure, it is freeware.
Grand update is here - Skip Metro Suite 3.0. We have completely redesigned it. Now it is just one portable *.exe file! See full change log below P.S. Please unisntall all previous versions of Skip Metro Suite before you will start to use version 3.0 Happy New Year to everyone Maybe you already known what Windows 8 won't allow you to boot directly to Classic Desktop. Instead of that you have to click on "Desktop" tile every time you logged in. This is very annoying behavior for all of us who prefer to work with Class Desktop instead of Metro Start Screen. So I decide to fix it. Skip Metro Suite for Windows 8 allows you to boot directly to Classic Desktop in Windows 8 RTM and Release Preview. Also it allows you completely disable all edge panels, not just hide them! All of them will be disabled, including square start button at bottom-left corner.
Also it features all tweaks from our latest article "How to disable the edge panels (Charms Bar and Switcher) in Windows 8".Since version 2.0 it uses own method to kill hot corners.Skip Metro Suite allows you to disable top-left hot corner (aka Switcher) and Charms Bar hint. So, you need no tweaks anymore to perform all of these tasks.
Skip Metro Suite features:
Skip Start Screen feature.
Switcher can be disabled.
Charms Bar Hint can be disabled.
Can completely REMOVE edge panels, including Charms Bar,Switcher and square start button at bottom-left edge of Desktop.

Many thanks to my friend Gaurav Kale for his useful suggestions and testing!
Our friend KNARZ has discovered some hidden and fun options of boot manager in Windows 8. According to him, he get that options via Embedded Environment. So, i used his research and made a new tool for you: Boot UI Tuner With help of Boot UI Tuner you will be able:
to enable advanced options of boot menu - such options as safe mode, debugging and so on will be available before every boot of your Windows 8;
to enable editing of boot options - this allows you to specify an addition options for kernel. They are similar to good old boot.ini features;
to disable blue Windows Logo during boot;
to disable spinning circle during boot;
to disable text messages during boot - messages like “Please wait”, “Updating registry – 10%” and so on;
to disable whole modern boot UI and turn it into legacy mode.
Most annoying thing in Windows 8's appearance, beside Metro and Charms Bar of Desktop, is transparent Taskbar. It does not fit the opaque window frames and looks ugly. I decide to fix it. Last night my friend Tihiy, the author of StartIsBack solution, has shared with me the way to disable tasbkar transparency via DWM API. So I have created Opaque Taskbar for Windows 8. Latest version is 1.1, I have resolved dual display issues and improved the code. A minor bug with check box state is also fixed. Please update as soon as possible. With help of this simple and lightweight application you will be able to make your taskbar Opaque in any time you want it. It does not stay in memory and does not consume your PC's resources. You can close it after you have disabled the transparency.
Opaque Taskbar for Windows 8 in action
Opaque Taskbar for Windows 8 has special option to run at Windows startup. Please note that Windows 8 uses delayed start for desktop apps, so your Taskbar will become opaque with some delay. This is not a big price for portable lightweight software, isn't it?
Opaque Taskbar for Windows 8 is free, portable application and does not require to be installed. It is compatible with Windows 8 x86 and Windows 8 x64.
As you may know, The Start screen in Windows 8 contains several hidden options. Some of them can change the animations behavior. Please read our "Enable advanced animations for the Start Screen in Windows 8" post for more information. Latest version is 1.1, it features the hidden Parallax effect settings of the Start Screen. Please update your software. Start Screen Animations Tweaker is our new free software which allows you to tweak all parameters related to the animations of the Start screen in Windows 8.
With Start Screen Animations Tweaker you will able:
to change behavior of the user name text slide animation.
to change behavior of the user picture slide animation.
to change behavior of Tiles slide animation. It has two options:
left-to-right animation. Tiles will fly from the "far" left corner into the screen. This reminds me effects from the Solitaire windows game.
right-to-left animation controls the right position from where Tiles will slide to their regular positions
to enable animations for every time you visit the Start screen in Windows 8, not only at login.
Start Screen Animations Tweaker has user-friendly one-click option, which allows to you to enable all the featured animations at once.You will get them immediately, without re-login.
There is "Reset to defaults" button which allows you to restore the default settings of your Start Screen.
Customize the Parallax effect for the Start Screen
Since version 1.1 the Start Screen Animations Tweaker application allows you to customize the hidden settings of Parallax effect for the Start Screen background. There is a difference in the visual position of Start Screen's tiles and the Start Screen's background. It's called the Parallax effect. You can really slow down the Start Screen background's scroll speed. See this in action:
Tip: use "Reset" button to reset the Parallax effect to its defaults.
Start Screen Animations Tweaker is freeware and portable application which does not require to be installed and works with both x86 and x64 editions of Windows 8.
As many users report me, Explorer crashes when you press Winkey repeatedly before the animation finishes. Probably that is a Windows bug, and not a bug of Start Screen Animations Tweaker. So, we considering the animations feature as "unstable". Use it at your own risk for non-logon purposes.
This theme was created for those who used to use the black appearance of window frames, which is hard to get in Windows 8 because of white color of title bar text. This theme fix changes the active title bar's text to white and also changes the "maximize" and "minimize" buttons from black to white, so that if you want a dark title bar the text and icons don't disappear because of being the same color as the background.
Our friend Vishal Gupta has covered how to get stable transparency in Windows 8 using our Aero8Tuner software and bLend tool. I realized that: 1. work with two tools is NOT HANDY. 2. the bLend's features can be easily repeated with several lines of code. It is nothing more than just layered windows.
So i decide to start this project.
WinaeroGlass
The main goal of this project to provide you the Aero experience as close to Windows 7 as it possible.
Step one
I have implemented all-in-one tool which allow you to get aero glass with one click. It is currently have no any UI but does its work well.
The near future I am working hard to provide you window frames with blur. This is our main goal and I do hope it will be implemented ASAP.
The next steps will be useful user interface for WinaeroGlass. Stay tuned.
You can try WinaeroGlass (the early alpha version without UI) right now.
Download and unpack WinaeroGlass.exe using the link below and run it. That's it! You should log off and log in back to stop WinaeroGlass since it has no native "stop\exit" feature yet.
I notice that hidden settings of the Alt+Tab dialog in Windows 8 are different from Windows 7. E.g., Microsoft has removed Columns/Rows and Fade effect settings, but added Focus Width and LOTS of other settings that suddenly does nothing at this moment. I will post them all with descriptions in blog here at Winaero, so interested person can wait for the article which will come in near future.. Today I would like to offer you my latest application - Alt Tab Tuner VIII. It was written from scratch for better code base and full featured Windows 8 support. Alt Tab Tuner VIII is the successor of my famous Alt+Tab Tuner for Windows 7. With brand new Alt Tab Tuner VIII you will able to change the following settings of Alt+Tab dialog:
size of the thumbnails
horizontal spacing between the thumbnails
vertical spacing between the thumbnails
top, left, right and bottom margins of thumbnail
icon size and position relative to the thumbnail
window title text offset
width of the focus border
Use "restore defaults" button to reset all settings to their defaults.
Alt Tab Tuner VIII is compatible with Windows 8 x86 and Windows x64. This is portable software and does not require to be installed.
